Surviving f8

After browsing the features just released at the f8 keynote – it is clear that unless you are useful, your brand will struggle to earn a place on Facebook.

Facebook’s mission is to create a place where friends connect, and their list of partners don’t get in the way of that. Netflix, Nike+, Spotify all give friends something to talk about, so they are in.

Unless you can come up with a utility that connects people, times will be tough. Every brand needs to focus on owning a social action.

The need for brands prove to be helpful these days is now paramount, at least as far as surviving on Facebook is concerned.

Going forward, Facebook, G+ & Twitter will be helpful to connect people when they visit a brand site, but i think as far as ON Facebook, if you aren’t inherently creating value, the embassy model is where it is heading. Brands are there if you need them.

But with change comes opportunity, so it’s a case of who will get it first and use these new features best.
